After completing the longest tenure as Chair of the Valley Council for Health & Human Services, Diane Stroman has given way to new chair Patricia Tarasovic, of The Volunteer Center at Valley United Way has been elected as Vice Chair.
Diane Stroman, Executive Vice President of TEAM, Inc., The long time Ansonia resident has been a very active and dedicated member of the community serving in a variety of positions throughout the Valley. Jimmy Ryan, Chairman of the Selection Committee and a Valley United Way Board member, said that, “Diane’s record of service to the Valley community is second to none. It’s remarkable to look at the time and effort she has put into so many organizations that benefit the lives of all who live and work in the Valley. She is another outstanding leader to add to the list of people who have been chosen for this prestigious award.”
In addition to her community work with TEAM, Inc., Ms. Stroman is currently very active as a member of the Board of Directors for the Lower Naugatuck Valley Boys & Girls Club, and the Valley Community Foundation. She is the Vice Chairperson for the Julian A. Taylor Scholarship Committee and is a Commissioner for the City of Ansonia Elderly Services.
She is former member of the Advisory Board of the Community Foundation of Greater New Haven and its Valley Needs and Opportunities Committee as well as the Ansonia Fair Housing Commission and the Tinney Center GED Advisory Board.
Ms. Stroman is also an active member of the Valley N.A.A.C. P and the Derby/Shelton Rotary Club and a corporator for Birmingham Group Health Services, Valley United Way and Griffin Hospital.
She previously served on the Ansonia Board of Education, and the Boards of Directors for Griffin Hospital, the Valley YMCA, the Valley Red Cross, Ansonia Community Action, Salvation Army and Birmingham Group Health Services’ Business Advisory Board. She has also been a Youth Advisor for the NAACP and the Be a Better Youth Girls club.
Ms. Stroman is a member of the Evangel Temple Church of God in Christ where she serves as Church Clerk and Senior Usher President.
Her work in the community has previously been recognized many times including the NAACP Regional Youth Advisor of the Year Award, Ansonia Housing Authority Community Award, Evangel Temple Living Legacy Award, Ansonia Community Action Agency Community Award, Woman that Make a Difference Award, James H. Wilkinson Lodge Community Service Award, Valley Chamber of Commerce Gold Seal Award, the Valley United Way Flynn Humanitarian award and the Valley Advisory Committee Chairman’s Award.
Ms. Stroman is a graduate of Ansonia High School and holds a BS degree in Business Management from Albertus Magnus College. Prior to her employment with TEAM, she worked for Uniroyal, Inc. and IBM.
She resides in Ansonia with her husband of 25 years, John Stroman and they are the proud parents of two children, Eric Edmonds and Courtney Stroman and one grandson, Daniel John Edmonds.
Tarasovic is the Director of the Volunteer Action Center at Valley United Way. Pat was the first Director of The Volunteer Action Center when it was started in 1991 and served until 1999 when she joined Birmingham Group Health Services as their Director of Development and dedicated over four years to the agency to help them as they launched a very aggressive Development Plan.
During her first tenure at Valley United Way, Pat created the Valley’s award-winning Corporate Volunteer Council and High School Volunteer Council in addition to running the Youth Leadership Program.
A very active member of the community, Pat was the Co-founder of the Oxford Cultural Arts Commission, and oversaw the building of Oxford’s bandstand and the initiation of its concert series. She co-chaired Oxford’s successful bicentennial and 350th anniversary events. She has served on the towns Beautification Committee and several other town committees. Pat was also a Co-founder of the award winning Oxford School Volunteer Program. She served as the Statewide President of School Volunteer Program and represented the State on National issues.
Pat served as President of the Oxford Junior Women’s Club and later went on to Serve as Director of the Connecticut Junior Women. She was also Co-Chair of the Valley’s All America City Weekend Gala and Celebration and a delegate in both 1999 and 2000.
Pat has been a driving force in the Leadership Greater Valley Program. She is also Co Chair of Healthy Valley and is a Past-president of the Derby/Shelton Rotary Club. She also co-chaired the campaign for Griffin Hospital’s Breast Wellness Center.
She is a past recipient of the Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce’s Gold Seal award, the Valley Council of Health and Human Services Lewis Savitsky Award, the Birmingham Group Health Services Good Neighbor Award, the Ansonia’s Women in History 2000 Award and the Valley YMCA Volunteer of the Year Award. She was also honored with the Valley Women Making a Difference Award and is also a Paul Harris Fellow with the Derby-Shelton Rotary Club.
